It had been easily 2-3 decades since the last time I was here, and this visit was not what I expected. Maybe things are the same, but my memory was of a 5-star establishment, and not the 3.5 star I experienced. The order I placed was different than what they prepared. The taste was not bad, but it was not great either. Maybe in these three decades my taste for burgers has changed. I thought that the burger was too small for the price. I felt that the price included, figuratively speaking, an extra for the memories. And at the very end, when I was going to pay for my $10 tab, I was told they were going to add $2 for the credit card transaction (20% of the bill). I see a growing trend to charge 3% of the bill for a credit card transaction, but 20% is excessive.

I haven’t eaten the burgers to rate them, but they did take 40 minutes for 4 burgers. When we informed the waiter that we were still waiting for the order, he said they’re almost ready, second time I asked, he looked at me and kept walking ignoring me. Another man and his wife were there before me and still waited for their order. The man mentioned the owners aren’t there, that’s why they’re taking their sweet time. I don’t care if the burgers are good, I won’t ever go back

This tiny place with the small burgers packs a powerful flavor punch! We almost didn't find it because GPS told us it was on the right side of the street but it was actually on the left. One small red door and a small sign hanging above is what you need to look for along with the historical marker on the wall. There are maybe a dozen 2 person tables inside. You sit at the table of your choosing and someone will take your order. Hubs and I both had the #3 Combo which is a single cheeseburger with mustard, pickles, lettuce, tomato and I think a little bit of onion. It comes with a coca, chips of your choice (plain Lays, Doritos, Fritos and maybe hot Cheetos) and a twinkie for $7. We upgraded to a Mexican coke for a small upcharge. They do take cards with an added $2 fee. This place was very busy when we came in but they're quick (and friendly) and people move along so others may have a table or many get it to go. We will return as the historic downtown area is also nice to walk around although it was pouring rain and lightning this day. Its not fancy by no means... but it's OG and it's about the history. Burgers, chips, and canned soda. That's it. Simple, no fusion, just a burger in an old school joint.

I used to eat at Rutledge Hamburgers about 10 years ago, and on my recent visit back to the Valley, I had to stop by again. I’m happy to say the burgers still taste just as amazing as I remember! Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. Pairing it with a Mexican Coke makes the experience even better. It’s great to see a classic spot stay true to its delicious roots. 🍔🍔🍔
